Fighting to Win: Strategies for Class Struggle Today

with John Clarke

A BC-wide dialogue on overcoming status quo containment and advancing worker power.

Saturday Sunday May 9-10
9 am - 2 pm
ZOOM

In an era of "increasing barbarism," where the crises we face—economic, ecological, and social—seem to be accelerating, the need for a disciplined, class-conscious, and united resistance has never been more urgent.

We are excited to announce that we are bringing John Clarke’s "Fighting to Win" course to our BC socialist and activist network this coming May.

From Theory to Practice

John Clarke, a long-time anti-poverty organizer and Marxist, originally developed this curriculum as a university-level course. However, he has since refined it into a high-impact, two-day "on the road" intensive.

This will be a dialogue-based event designed to identify the "constraints" that stymie our radical movements. We’ll work to figure out why our resistance is being contained and how we can break through.

Course Content

The course is framed around the theme of containment and effective resistance. We will collectively explore the specific obstacles we face in British Columbia and across Canada, including:

  • State Repression: Coercion and intimidation tactics.

  • The "Softer" Tactics: How movements are diverted, co-opted, and regulated by power structures.

  • The Neoliberal Turn: How labour legislation and community concessions have historically limited the scope of our struggle.

  • The Polycrisis: Navigating the current intersection of austerity, militarism, and the assault on Indigenous rights.

Event Details

This is a United Front style event. We are inviting everyone along the Left spectrum—from seasoned revolutionaries to budding radical social democrats—to join the conversation.

  • When: Saturday, May 9th & Sunday, May 10th

  • Time: 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM (PT)

  • Where: Online Zoom (Link provided upon registration)

The goal is to cohere class-conscious British Columbians into a stronger network. By sharing our knowledge and experiences, we can develop the discipline and tactics necessary for future power-building. As the organizer notes, this is an "important seed" for a recurring Solidarity Summit—a way to ensure we are on the same page before the next major mobilization.

"The whole approach is to set out a general context that the participants explore in ways that reflect their priorities and that draw on their knowledge and experience."John Clarke
