The whole world is watching New York City, where an insurgent campaign is on the verge of making history by electing Zohran Mamdani as Mayor on Tuesday. 

One year ago, a 34-year-old member of the Democratic Socialists of NYC named Zohran Mamdani was polling at 1%. Now he's on the verge of beating the billionaires and the establishment of the city at the global centre of financial capitalism. 

Mamdani's success is a result of an insurgent, grassroots efforts of tens of thousands of dedicated volunteers fighting for the policies we need to win more affordable cities: Free buses, universal childcare, and a Rent Freeze.

The election of a democratic socialist as Mayor of any major city anywhere is an occasion worth celebrating. Join us as we raise a glass to this historic campaign and look ahead to next year’s municipal election in Vancouver.
