DSOV Statement

The Democratic Socialists of Vancouver add our voice to all those across the country and around the world urgently calling for a ceasefire and an end to the genocidal war crimes Israel is committing against the Palestinian people. 

We urge our members and everyone in Vancouver to mobilize to demand the Canadian government join the global consensus calling for a ceasefire, an end to the siege of Gaza, and a just peace including an end to the illegal occupation of all Palestinian lands. 

We also join the call for Canada to end all arms sales to Israel, and salute all those taking action to directly confront the politicians and war profiteers backing and supplying these ongoing crimes against humanity. 

French socialist Jean Jaurès, who was assassinated on the eve of World War I, said that capitalism carries within it war like a cloud carries rain. There is no better way to mark the upcoming Remembrance Day long weekend than by joining with neighbours, co-workers, friends, and family to do whatever we can to stop the horrors of war, colonialism, ethnic cleaning, and genocide – and to show solidarity with the Palestinian people in their struggle for freedom and justice. 

Ceasefire now. Stop the genocide. Free Palestine!
